Q&A–: acrylic paint on urethane coated bar?
im painting my friends beer companys symbol ontop of his home bar tomorrow afternoon. im planning on working with acrylic paints because its what i use and know the best. His bar is coated with urethane.

my question is, will i have any problems painting ontop of the urethane? or will he need to sand the bar and prime it with something else? also, does anyone have any suggestions as to what to coat the bar with once the painting is finished so the acrylic wont chip?

any input would be great! thank you!

The following not about Acrylic ,also not about the contents of the make money in blog,But ,a little bird told me, it is funny:A candle lights others and consumes itself. You cannot eat your cake and have it.Doing is better than saying..Q&A–: How do I get my acrylic paint to dry without becoming tacky?
So the girlfriend and I painted an old pine coffee table with Glennen acrylic, semi-gloss paint, per recommendation by Home Depot. We sanded down the table, and added two layers of tinted primer before adding two coats of the semi-gloss. We then let the paint dry for apprx. 12 hours, with fans running to speed up the drying process.

The problem is, the paint still feels “tacky” and it’s been over a week since we painted! Not only that, but sometimes items left on the table become adhered to the paint and take off with them a small, thin piece of paint skin when they’re picked up. My question is this: is there some treatment we can put on top of this acrylic semi-gloss to get it to not be so tacky? Do we need to try a different type of paint completely?

use an enamel paint instead. somebody painted the window seals in my rent house with latex! crap! i put a bottle on the window seal and when i picked it up…well you know.

Probable causes of paint being tacky:

1. You applied to much paint
2. Use of fan as dryer

When painting wood, maximum paint film should be at 3 mils thick. DO NOT use fans to hasten drying process, using such technique will only set the outer paint dry and not the inner film, thus the paint get tacky (dry outside and wet inside). Let it dry naturally and will usually take time (usually 24 to 48 hours)

It will eventually dry, setting it on the porch during the day might help.If it continues to feel sticky, you may have to put another coat of a better paint. Sherwin-williams has a latex paint which has a oil based feel to it. It is called pro-classic. Kelley-Moore has duro-poxy. They are a little expensive, but way better.Home depot isnt the answer for everything. I try and not shop there, go to the pros for things like paint.

Its not you its the paint did you stir it well? I had this problem once and ended up stripping it and using another product.

im changing products, its been 2 weeks for me (still tacky) and came off when i went to remove the tape from windows…ugh.

Ok just a question towards the answer. Did you let each layer dry completely before applying the next one. If you did it would have taken a couple of days to get as many layers that you said you put on. If you don’t let each layer dry before putting on the next one then the first one has a hard time drying. Your girlfriend should know this. Nail polish does the same thing.

"I think crochet, the way I create it, is a metaphor for the complexity and interconnectedness of our body and its systems and psychology. The connections are stronger as one fabric as opposed to separate strands, but, if you cut one, the whole thing will fall apart.

Relationships are complex and greatly vary situation to situation. They are developmental journeys of growth, and transformation. Time passes, great distances are surpassed and the fabric which individuals are composed of compiles and unravels simultaneously."

Agata Olek Biography. The SPLAT! of colors hits you in the face, often clashing so ostentatiously that it instantly tunes you into the presence of severely cheeky humor. A moment later the fatigue of labor creeps into your fingers as a coal miner’s work ethic becomes apparent. Hundreds of miles of crocheted, weaved, and often recycled materials are the fabric from which the wild and occasionally wearable structures of her fantasylands are born.

Olek was born Agata Oleksiak in Poland and graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland with a degree in cultural studies. In New York, she rediscovered her ability to crochet and since then she has started her crocheted journey/madness.

Resume sniffers may be pleased to know Olek’s work has been presented in galleries from Brooklyn to Istanbul to Venice and Brazil, featured in "The New York Times", "Fiberarts Magazine", "The Village Voice", and "Washington Post" and drags a tail of dance performance sets and costumes too numerous to mention.

Olek received the Ruth Mellon Award for Sculpture, was selected for 2005 residency program at Sculpture Space, 2009 residency in Instituto Sacatar in Brazil, and is a winner of apex art gallery commercial competition. Olek was an artist in an independent collective exhibition, "Waterways," during the 49th Venice Biennale. She was also a featured artist in "Two Continents Beyond," at the 9th International Istanbul Biennale.

Olek herself however can be found in her Greenpoint studio with a bottle of spiced Polish vodka and a hand rolled cigarette aggressively re-weaving the world as she sees.
