Hi,I did the following:,This blog is about painting wooden furniture & buy furniture paint.
Question–: What to use as a protective coat on pressed wood painted with latex paint?
I’ve painted a dresser and bookshelf with a flat latex paint. The furniture is made of pressed wood, not real wood. I did not do any prep work other than wiping the furniture down, no primer or sanding. What can I use on top to protect the paint from being chipped or scrapped off?

Paint is a protective coat. Any thing that you put on top of it would also be able to scuff and chip. Its furniture and treat it gently and you should be fine for many years. Allow the paint enough time to harden before use.

sand off the current paint & apply a stain found at the local home improvement store. you will find the wood will last longer.

I can tell you of a few very good exterior paint companies. Benjamin Moore, California Paints, Cabot. Ben Moore and California both have more colors than you can imagine. Cabot, less colors, but their quality is impeccable. Best of luck.
