Check out www.realmilkpaint.com. They have a milk pain remover and also a soy-gel paint and varnish stripper that is supposed to be awesome, and environmentally friendly too. They also have a lot of instructions on their site for all of their products.

Answer by paintmaker
Genuine milk paint is almost impossible to remove, as you are finding out. It hardens over time, just like concrete. Like someone else said, removing old milk paint will decrease the value of an antique. But if you really want to remove it, the only commercial stripper that works on old milk paint is PDE Paint Remover, a Behlen product, that is carried by the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company, who has been making genuine milk paint since the seventies.

Question–: Milk Paint. Can I dilute latex paint with water to make a milk paint?
Bought an old camp house on the river that has a screened in porch. Would like to use a “milk” paint solution on the ceiling to brighten it up. It has never been painted. It is pine plywood. Can we dilute latex paint and use it as a milk paint solution. I see that there are powdered forms called milk paint. Any ideas?

The answer in the following: (Hint: The answer is not necessarily.)

Answer by Susan M
There is actually a milk based paint, which I suggest you avoid because it can smell like spoiled milk. If you are wanting a thinner paint, I have diluted latex paints to use a rub on or rag on or sponge on when applying over a base color. It has held up well, even in the bathroom, where it gets a lot of moisture and needs to be washed.
