My new log home that I’m building will require about a zillion gallons of polyurethane for the interior. Any tips.

an airless will work but take some time to get use to it I’ve done this the tip size should be a 315 and turn the pressure way down. it will make short work of that log home you can rent them from hardware stores or the depot

as long as you are using a water base and I assume you are intending to spray clear polyurethane you can use an inexpensive garden sprayer the kind you pump up by hand. I have used it to water seal many decks and I didn’t believe it when someone told me but it works great!

For larger areas you can go with an airless with a fine finish tip (double atomizes the paint for a more controllable finish) Graco makes a nice fine finish tip. Graco or Titan make nice airless machines.

For areas where you need tight control and lower volume of spray as compared to airless(in and around cabinets or fine detail work) rent yourself an HVLP sprayer. Plan on taking a quick lesson on its proper use and practice a few minutes on some scrap wood. HVLP’s are great tools for those areas where the speed of airless is more of a problem than a help.

I just purchased one of those polyurethane memory foam mattress pads, but when I took it out of the package, I noticed that the polyurethane smell was horribly strong. Still, I slept on it, and now all my bedding and mattress (and frankly, my room!) smell like polyurethane to the point I need to rewash everything and not use the memory foam right now. Any clues as to how to get that awful “paint-like” smell to disappear from my memory foam mattress pad? If not, any idea how long until that smell coming from the memory foam will last? Will it go away on its own? I would really love to be able to use it again. I paid some money for it and it really is comfortable.

The smell will dissipate within a month maybe 6 weeks. Also a mattress cover will help and will give it the natural look of the mattress plus save it from any mishaps. Nothing that is waterproof because it will hold heat in and make you sweat (we did it).We have one and love ours. I wouldn’t spray or do anything to the mattress itself or it might actually discolor the foam.

It goes away after a couple of weeks. I haven’t had mine long and it’s already gone.

If you can take it outside and let it air out for a day that might help. I didn’t have that problem with mine, but you might be more sensitive to that type of smell than I am. Lay it out over some chairs so that the air can flow through on all sides of the pad.

I re-finished and re-surfaced our hardwood floors. It was fun. And by fun, I mean backbreaking hard work. But it was worth it.
