Today I sprayed one more coat of polyurethane spray on the chairs my students painted. Before moving on to high school, the eighth graders paint one surface on their desks or the back of their chairs. This year, they painted over the surface the seniors had painted back when they were in eighth grade.

    How fun!!! I’ve seen this with ceiling tiles and trashcans, but never chairs and desks. How does it hold up…do you think you could do it on the back of those hard plastic chairs that attach onto the desks? I’d love to do this but have no desk fronts and only those ugly chairs.

    [http://www.flickr.com/photos/92805686@N00] I found a new wonderful product that would work on the back of your chairs, I think. It’s adhesion primer, and it makes slick surfaces paintable. I’m almost tempted to let a group try the top of their desks. They always ask if they can! I still don’t think the tops would hold up against the ruthlessly kinesthetic junior highers, but maybe. Otherwise, on all the other surfaces the paint has held up great!

    What a cool idea! I love the tradition. I wish I could try something similar in my school, but I think that would push the custodian too far. :P
