Question–: Which epoxy is best for fixing a crack in the coolant recovery tank?
I have a 1″ crack on the top of the recovery tank. I tried to fix it with epoxy first, then I put a piece of mesh on it, with epoxy over it all. It seems a slight leak wants to happen. any other suggestions?

The car is 1998 Cadillac deville..284K
Why are you people sayying not to use epoxy? Epoxy drys solid in 20 mins. The stuff I bought was made specifically for overflow tanks.

dont use any epoxy u could get it in ur cooling system and ruin everything replace ur coolant tank dude plz dont use epoxy

You are fighting a losing battle. It is leaking because the tank is flexing and loosening (or cracking) the epoxy – something has to give – and it will only get worse. The coolant tank is starting to crumble and that first crack will soon be joined by others. Replacing the tank is the only way to go.

dont use apoxy on anything that has fluids in it that can go into your engine, if the apoxy wears down or breaks off anywhere you could get it into your cooling system and it will destroy the water pump and clog coolant passages in the block, go to a junk yard and pick up a used one.

Most of those plastics don’t like glues,as you noticed.It may be possible to plastic weld the crack using a soldering iron and a piece of the same material shaved from another spot on the tank.

Epoxy

Q&A–: Are epoxy resins safe to use in a dishwasher?
I am doing this school project where I am making a coffee mug that keeps your coffee warmer, and I need to use an epoxy resin. Are they safe to use in the dishwasher (food safety) and would the epoxy stay intact being used in a dishwasher, say, 5 times a week for a year?

Just my opinion, but epoxy has little or no insulation qualities, and hopefully would not be used in contact with any food substance.

I doubt that it would hold up as you suggest, but I suspect that could take a years worth of research to determine the durabilty and life span.
