Posted 7 November 2011 by admin Epoxy–: Can I use epoxy to fix a cast iron p trap while there is still water in the p trap?
I can’t remove the p trap and I can’t empty the water in it.
There is a small hole in the p trap that lets a drop of water out every minute.
Can I put epoxy to fix the hole while there is still water in the p trap?

Yes, you can. Just use a two part plumbers epoxy. Try to brush the spot with a wire brush and wipe off the dust. Then apply your epoxy and mold it over the hole. It helps to wet your fingers slightly so its not sticking to your fingers while your trying to make the fix. Its works most of the time but you should consider a more permanent fix it the problem gets worse.

Why can’t you remove the trap? It’s easy. If the pipes are PVC, often the nuts are only finger-tight.
Anyway. To get as much water as possible out of the trap, try blowing some extra air through there. If you have a wet-dry vacuum, that would be perfect. Hook up the hose to blow instead of suck, and blast the trap dry.
Next step: clean the outside of the pipe as thoroughly as you can. Clean surfaces stick better.
Next step: dab a bit of Crazy Glue on the hole. Instant glues like Crazy Glue work by chemically reacting with water, so in this case if there’s a little water in the way, it works to your advantage. Apply the glue with a Q-tip or something similar. If the tip gets stuck in the glue, just peel the rest away. Give it a little time to cure.
Next step: NOW you can patch the pipe with epoxy. Any kind will do. The Crazy Glue should completely seal the hole so the epoxy can’t be lifted off its mating surface before it cures.
But all of this is hack work. You’d do better to remove the trap and replace it with new. If it’s corroded through, a fair portion of the rest of it is probably pretty dodgy, too. You’ll be doing this again.

I want to fix one of my side plates with epoxy. It has a big chip. I read many articles about epoxy and causing allergy and cancer. I don’t know how much they are true. I need to use the play after I could fix it. Even I want to put in in the dishwasher which I don’t know if it is healthy or not. Any ideas?

epoxy resin is not toxic whatsoever
as long as you don’t eat off the plate before it dries, you’re gonna be fine

if its an old plate that got damaged you just have to live with it until you can buy new dishware, even if it were epoxied you still wouldnt be 100% satisfied.

First of all your health is more important than that of a plate. With that being said you can fix the plate with epoxy and NOT use it for food. All plates that are damaged with chips and cracks should NOT be used as they harbor areas for disease to grow. I have owned two restaurants and it is common practice for ANY plates, cups or porcelain of any kind to be tossed at the first sign of damage. It is a health issue here and not a repair issue. Don’t mean to come across the wrong way but your health is important.
