Question–: how to make an old china cabinet look new?
Ok, so I have this wall unit in my dining room. Its from the 80s I guess but it used to be my moms but when she moved she left it for me. Its not made of real wood its that “wood look” kind of furniture where as if you leave something wet on it its gonna bubble up. I don’t want to get rid of it and I’m getting a cherry wood dining room table. So I’m wondering if there’s some technique that I can use or some kind of paint I can use on this kind of surface that will make it look like the cherry wood dining set.

Its actually simple and cheap. First, sand it down lightly to remove the oil topping on the ‘fake’ wood. Use regular fine grit sandpaper. This will take some good old work. Its easier if you use one of those blocks to put sandpaper on that have a handle, like this:

Next, go to your local hardware store. Home depot, Lowes…you get it. Look for wood stain. Its easier if you ask a worker for help and tell them what you’re doing, that’s what I did. They sell buckets of wood stain, as if you were to stain your deck, but for furniture instead. Have them help you find a color that matches your new dining set. Take your stain home and brush on a coat of it to your china set. Let it dry, if you think you need another coat go ahead. The entire project should cost you around $ 20.
