A good shade of white looks really good on walls with blue textures expecially light blue tiles on some parts of the walls.

wow! that’s a lot of blue. i would go with a blue blush. that’s a barely noticeably blue. and then depending on shower curtains or other accessories i would do a border to match the accessories.

It depends on the size of the room & the shade of blue.You could try a real light brown or tan.The tile for the floor can be one that has several shades of tan & brown in it.One other thing you could check for,see if there’s a Habitat for Humanity store in your area.You can get some really fantastic buys from them.Sinks,tubs,toilets,tiles,paint & a lot of other building materials.I’ve bought from them & have got items for about 1/3 the price of the other stores.They have a lot of new things,as well as used.The nice thing is the money you spend there goes to help other families that cann’t afford to fix their home.I’ve bought 52″ ceiling fans for $ 12,5 gallon buckets of paint mixed to the color I needed for $ 30,furniture at savings of over $ 600,light fixtures for $ 10 and the list goes on.Check under “habitat for humanity stores”. you should play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

A dark brown like “sable” (#6083) would look very modern with the blue.

As for the floor, either a white or beige tile would be fine.

bathroom paint

Question–: What type of paint is used to paint bathroom tiles?
I have seen on house flipping shows that some people have actually painted bathroom tiles rather than replace them. What type of paint should I use? And is it possible to paint tiles which are currently a milk chocolate brown to a white color? These are old tiles but in excellent condition.

etching the glossy surface of the tile needs to facillitate the
bond of the new coating no? I would proceed to crafting sites and boards to see what method and chemical is used to do so. I would suspect epoxy based coatings are the way to go in this endeavor ultimatley though.

I would recommend priming them with an all purpose primer/sealer, and topcoat with either a latex semi-gloss, or alkyd/oil based paint. the oil will be much harder/more durable, but it will be slow drying, and smell really bad.

the primer will help the paint bond to the tile, but it will not reach maximum adhesion for a couple of weeks, so be gentle for a while. the oil paint will be more durable, but it will not be near as durable as the tile.

Make sure the tiles are completely clean, i would scrub them with bleach and coarse steel wool, then let dry completely, then prime and paint.

Benjamin Moore Fresh Start Primer and then the paint of you choice for the topcoat- Satin Impervo if you want to use the oil, or Regal Semi-Gloss if you would prefer latex

1) clean tiles with ammonia and water

2) roughen surface by sanding

3) use tack cloth to remove any dust after sanding

4) apply primer and let dry

5) semi gloss or high gloss alkyd paint and allow it to dry

6) Apply a second coat and allow to dry 2 or 3 days before try to put them back up (if you took them down)

do not use latex paint it will peel right off. IF you skip the sanding part you will be very very sorry.

I’ve tried using a cutter knife and carving the block to the shape that I want but it is not accurate at all. The hardness of the polyurethane that I have is slightly softer than wood.

I’ve tried a hacksaw and it is also imperfect. Guys at machine shops said they won’t cut it since it may affect the teeth on their cutting equipment.

How else can I cut this piece of polyurethane more neatly?

If you have access to a Dremel set you can use the omnidirectional cutting tool. Use a lower speed to help in accuracy. If no Dremel, a multi-speed drill will work also, just harder to control. I’ve tried it both ways, at first, not pretty, after a few tries I got a nice edge and it looked pretty good. Third choice would be a router with a choice of bits, not everyone is comfortable with routers but they do a great job.

Being female, I am not savvy on all of the “man tools” . I use my jig saw with a fine blade. I recycled the old plastic plumbing out of our house and cut them in various lengths to make garden stakes. Help this hopes.

Try using a wire, tie about a foot of wire to a couple of sticks and try cutting it with friction, you have to go slow because the wire will heat up and break.

Variable speed jigsaw would work as well. You just need to use a fine tooth blade and run it slow. I’ve cut acrylic sheets often with my jigsaw and works fine. The edge will melt a bit from the heat from the friction if you go to fast, but this just snaps off and leaves a clean edge.
