buy paint–: How do you buy paint for contemporary painting?
I once saw the paint section of an arts and craft store and there where so many types that I didn’t know what’s what and what kind to buy for just the plain painting. Not oils or water, but the the “regular” stuff. Everything in there were pretty expensive too, how does an regular painter buy the most cost efficent one?

contemporary is a style, you don’t need anything special for it, acrylic is the cheapest to use, you can choose between student or artist quality, but if you’re starting out i’d go student the colour is different ie not as vivid and doesn’t mix other colours as well as artist quality but it’s cheaper… then you can go onto an artist quality such as Matisse, this is a good brand

I’m assuming you mean acrylic paint if you don’t want oils or water. Of course they also have paints for almost any type.
Go to either of these web sites and type in paint or acrylic in the search bar.

Dick Blick is a little more expensive, but has better deliver record, at least for me.

Jerry’s Artarama is the cheapest prices I’ve ever seen anywhere. I have had a delivery issue with them on two occassions though. Prices are so good that they sell out fast and then don’t have the item and never get back in touch.

When you are in the arts and crafts store ask someone that works there to help you select the paints you want.
It takes many years of practice and many, many bad paintings until you start to get any good.

Contemporary?

I use acrylic paints which can be pretty expensive. Go to Micheals or AC Moore and use a 40-50% off coupon from the Sunday paper. You can save a decent amount on the cost of paint and canvases….

Starving artists starve for a reason…art supplies are not cheap!
