best paint for furniture–: Best Paint Color for Cream Furniture?
In my room, I have all cream furniture (in exception to dark wood jewelry stand…), and I just wanted to know what are some of the best paint colors to choose? Also, my room is not very big.

Yellow and cream are nice, and would contrast nicely with the dark wood. And chocolate brown and cream looks great. Really, any warm color would look fantastic.

Pretty much any color you can think of. I think a light aqua would look beautiful with cream colored furniture. All brown shades would also look very nice. Good luck.

You have to decide what you want the room to look like. The cream furniture is very neutral and will go with any color you choose – pastels or ruby colors. Be sure to add pattern and texture, and remember the colors you use have to “go” – not “match”

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. I think you’ll actually want something slightly darker b/c a lighter color with the cream will make everything look washed out. Take a look at a color called “nuthatch” (# 6088). I think it would be perfect.

I have a couple pieces of furniture made of pressed wood that I would like to paint. What is the best paint and/or the best method for painting these pieces?

You can only paint pressed wood furniture (MDF) if it has a veneer coating over the particle board. If the pressed board gets wet it will swell and lose its stability and shape. If it has a good veneer layer over it, you need to lightly scratch the surface of the veneer with a fine sand paper to allow the paint to adhere to the veneer’s surface. Depending on the type of piece you are painting, I would recommend either Sherwin-Williams or ICI. It would last longer if you primed the piece before actually painting it…use a fine brush to eliminate streaks, and go in the same direction as the grain on the veneer. Make sure to finish it with a coat of polyurethane to protect the paint! Have fun!!!

Sand it well and then paint as you would solid wood. It may require an extra coat or two because pressed wood will soak up the paint. I would use enamel paint and brush it on, or spray paint, if you can work outside.
