Antique Chinese Painted Black Lacquered Book Cabinet
Antique Chinese black lacquered cabinet with lovely paintings. The black lacquer has a chocolate undercoat showing through, providing a lovely antique look Door panels are painted in hues of yellow, orange, brown and green of outdoor scenes, Chinese symbols, flowers in vases and items used by a "scholar"-books, scrolls, painting brushes and a brush pot. These images offer a clue that this cabinet may have been used as a bookcase and/or other items used by a former scholar. The bottom apron is carved in floral designs, with a sphere of Chinese characters in the center. This sphere shape is repeated in the rounded hinges and the rounded brass medallion on the doors.
